Oral history interview with Kay Pomerantz, July 1, 1987.

Pomerantz discusses her role in the Jewish Education Committee of the Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle since her hiring in 1972. Pomerantz's initial responsibility was teacher training and teen education at the High School of Jewish Studies. She describes the formation of the Jewish Education Council as an entity independent of the Jewish Federation in 1981. Sam Stroum was head of the Federation at this time, and Lawrence Nieder was the chairman of the committee. Pomerantz gives her opinion of the benefits of the scholarship program for teen trips to Israel and the Jewish Awareness Institute. She supported the parents who created the Jewish Day School of Metropolitan Seattle and later implemented a new Hebrew language program for the school. She mentions the inception of the Kay Pomerantz Jewish Education Library, the Principals Association, Jewish Librarians Association, and the local Conference for Alternatives in Jewish Education (called "Mini-CAJE"). Pomerantz states that advocacy for Jewish education has been her greatest contribution as director of the Jewish Education Council.
